Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) announces something new when the 2009 Outdoor Family Film Festival begins again in August: the popular summertime event will also now be shown on Saturday nights in the Portland neighborhood.

“This family event has been so successful in the past that we wanted to expand the opportunity for more families to do something together in the summer close to home,” says Hamilton. “Families will now have the chance to enjoy movies under the stars in Shawnee Park or Portland Park this year.”

The Outdoor Family Film Festival will begin on Friday Night August 7th & Saturday August 8th with the animated film “Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa.”

On Friday nights in August, the films will be shown in Shawnee Park at Southwestern Parkway and West Market Street at the Softball fields. On Saturday nights in August, the movies will be shown at the Portland Park, 640 North 27th Street behind the Portland Community Center. All movies begin at dusk.

“This is an opportunity to get out of the house and spend quality time with the kids,” says Hamilton. “Everyone should bring a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic basket and just sit back and enjoy themselves.” Concession sales will be available and proceeds benefit West Louisville Sports.

The lineup for the 2009 Outdoor Family Film Festival is as follows:
