In an effort to promote a healthier neighborhood, “A Celebration of Community” will offer a wide range of free medical screenings to residents of Metro Council District 5.
“This celebration is a new approach to encourage a healthy lifestyle for people in the Shawnee Neighborhood,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D) 5. “This is a chance to see if there are any medical concerns you need to be concerned about,”
The screenings are one aspect of the celebration. It will take place at French Plaza at Amy & Market Streets between 9:00am and 2:00pm.
The screenings will focus on breast cancer, colon cancer and prostrate cancer for people age 40 and older. Health professionals will also be on hand to check blood pressure, blood sugar, glaucoma and dental screenings.
Louisville Metro Police will be on hand to make KID –IDs between 11:30am to 4:00pm.
“But we have also come up with an event that may help neighbors get to know each other,” says Hamilton.
The celebration also features a community yard sale for any one in the area. It will be located on the vacant lawn across from the Plaza on a first come basis.
A Celebration of Community is sponsored by the Shawnee Neighborhood Association and the Shawnee Business Association, along with local churches and PNC Bank.
