Councilman King welcomes the “MUSCL Senior Wellness to Schnitzelburg

An idea to bring new life to a beloved community building will finally become a reality for the people of Schnitzelberg.
The grand opening of the MUSCL Senior Wellness Center at Schnitzelburg was held on Friday, August 10th The center is located at 1016 East Burnett Avenue and is housed in the former school house of St. Elizabeth and St. Rose Grade Schools.
“The opening of the center brings new life to Schnitzelburg and all the neighborhoods around it,” said Councilman Jim King (D-10). “I am so proud to be a part of its success and I look forward to many great days at the center for the seniors in our neighborhoods.”
MUSCL (Ministries United of South Central Louisville) Executive Director, Anne Smith and Brad Castlebury, Director of the Center have been working with neighborhood leaders to clean and fix up the old school since early July, when they learned Councilman King was successful in getting money in the Metro Government budget for the center.
“I couldn’t be more excited for residents of Schnitzelburg and the entire community. What a great asset this center will be for the seniors in the area,” said Gary Allen, President of the Schnitzelburg Area Community Council.
The center will be open initially on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s from 9 am – 4 pm and will provide activities including computer and email access, exercise equipment use, arts and crafts, daily “lunch bunches” and a fully stocked library. The phone # for the center is 634-3221.
Joining Councilman King at the center’s grand opening was State Senator Tim Shaughnessy (D-19) and former Congressman Ron Mazzoli.
