Louisville, KY - Louisville Metro Councilman Ken Fleming has secured a SMART (Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer) Traffic Control device for use exclusively in District Seven. The SMART Machine monitors a vehicle’s speed and flashes it to a driver, reminding them to slow down if they are exceeding the posted speed limit. “Speeding poses a significant problem in the Seventh District,” said Fleming. “Although it is difficult to completely eliminate speeding, the SMART Machine is a valuable tool in deterring speeding. The SMART Machine will also provide traffic speed statistics to the police department, allowing officers to better monitor traffic in the future.” Fleming introduced an ordinance appropriating funding for the SMART Machine. The Metro Council approved the ordinance on February 24, and the Machine was delivered to District Seven in late March. The Machine is currently located on Ambridge Circle in Windy Hills, and will be periodically moved to different locations in District Seven.
