Public Health and Wellness Offers Numerous Opportunities to Exercise

Start the New Year right – become more active!

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has teamed up with Metro Parks and the YMCA to offer many exercise classes at various locations throughout the community. All classes are free and no prior registration is required. Simply come and have fun!

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an integrated exercise for the body, mind, and spirit based on an ancient Chinese martial art. It improves flexibility, strength, balance, endurance, agility, and coordination. All ages and ability levels are welcome!

Public Health & Wellness Mondays and Wednesdays

400 E. Gray St. 5 p.m. – 7p.m.

Low Impact Aerobics

Low-impact aerobic exercise consists of rhythmic movements with at least one foot on the ground involving large muscle groups accompanied by music. They are ideal for people who want to begin an activity regimen.

Public Health & Wellness Tuesdays and Thursdays

400 E. Gray St. 5:00 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Mixed Aerobics

Mixed aerobics sessions alternate between low and high impact exercises for the optimal balance between a lower risk of injury and maximum workout intensity.

Chestnut Street YMCA Mondays

930 W. Chestnut St. Noon – 1 p.m.

Yoga

Yoga is a traditional physical and mental discipline that originated in India. It involves many poses that strengthen and stretch the muscles.

Shelby Park Community Center Mondays

600 E. Oak St. 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Zumba

Zumba combines Latin and international music with dance to make exercise fun. Classes use music based on salsa, merenge, cumbia, reggaeton, samba and other international styles.

South Louisville Community Center Mondays

Kick Boxing Boot Camp

This class does not involve any person-to-person contact. Participants imitate various movements of the kick boxing martial art for fun and exercise.
