Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin is calling upon area churches in District 2 to locate families that could use some help with food for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

With the economy the way it is, there may be some out there that will need some help,” says Shanklin. “Many of our local churches may be able to help us find those in need.”

District 2 will provide a $25 food gift card toward the purchase of a Thanksgiving meal. The purchase will be for a needy household of four or more residents inside the District 2 Council area

The churches will supply names of families or households by Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Recipients will be notified on Friday, November 20, 2009. And the gift cards will be available for pick-up on Monday morning, November 23, 2009, at 4809 Unseld Blvd., Louisville, KY 40213.

“Although we are unable to provide more than one food gift card per congregation or neighborhood area, within this Council District, we hope that this small gift will help someone who might not otherwise be able to acquire a Thanksgiving meal,” says Shanklin.

For more information about the program, contact Councilwoman Shanklin’s office at 574-1102.
