Flu Cases Reported in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 11, 2006) The Kentucky Department for Public Health has reported 3 laboratory confirmed cases of flu in the state. The cases involve two Fayette County residents and one Woodford County resident. While no flu cases have been confirmed so far this year in Louisville Metro, the presence of influenza in the state marks the beginning of flu season.

“We urge people to get a flu shot,” said Metro Health Director Dr. Adewale Troutman. “Particularly those at high risk for serious illness from the flu,” said Troutman.

Flu shots are available to anyone 6 months of age or older at the Health Department at 400 E. Gray St. weekdays 8:30 to 11:30 AM and 12:30 to 3:30 PM until December 22. No appointments are necessary. 

Flu shots will also be available to the general public without appointment at community clinics today and tomorrow as follows:

Tuesday, December 12, 3 to 7 PM, Harrods Creek Fire House, 8905 U.S. Highway 42

Wednesday, December 13, 8 AM to noon Louisville Commodities, 1616 Rowan Street

Flu shots are $25. Medicare Part B or Passport insurance plans will cover the cost for flu immunizations. The Louisville Metro Health Department will not turn anyone away because of inability to pay. For information, phone MetroCall at 311 or visit
