For the last 10 years, it has been an event bringing church groups, schools, businesses, local leaders and neighbors together for one purpose. The Southwest Pride Community Cleanup is once again set to get underway for this Saturday, March 26th to bring these groups together to make the community a cleaner place to live.
“The organizers of this event have done a great job of bringing these various groups together,” says Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12). “Over the years, this event has grown into a gathering of people who are dedicated to keeping our community clean.”
The Southwest Pride Community Cleanup has two locations where volunteers can gather beginning at 8:30am on Saturday morning. One location is at 7053 Dixie Highway next to Fairleigh Pet Center in Pleasure Ridge Park. The second location 10719 Dixie Highway next to Kroger’s in Valley Station. Both locations are being coordinated by the Valley Station Area Business Association and the Pleasure Ridge Park area Business Association.
“I am looking forward to joining the residents of District 25 in my first Southwest Pride Community Cleanup event as a Councilman,” says David Yates (D-25). “In years past, I have found working on these cleanups with Brightside brings a sense of pride for myself and others so I know we will have a good turnout of volunteers.”
There is also a chance that groups who have the most volunteers can be eligible for cash prizes. Volunteers must be present at the sign in booth and list their group to qualify for the prize.
“There are so many people who take pride in their community and every year we see more people wanting to get involved in events like this,” says Bob Henderson (D-14). “I and other members of the Metro Council are pleased with efforts made by the people who have made this event such a success.”
