Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12) has invited the project manager, participants and graduates of the Teenage Parent Program (TAPP) to attend the Metro Council Appropriations Committee Meeting on Thursday June 4th at 5pm in the Metro Council Chambers, City Hall 3rd Floor.
During this meeting members will discuss a proposed ordinance to help fund ‘Project Lap Top’ which is a part of the SMART (Science, Math and the Right Technology) Grant. “With the young ladies who have benefitted from this program present, other council members will be able to see and hear how this program not only helps these students but the community as a whole,” says Blackwell.
“I don’t know what we would have done without Metro Council and their support for our Project Lap Top program,” says Jaye Bittner, project manager for the SMART Grant. “They truly share our philosophy that teen pregnancy is not an excuse to fail rather it becomes the reason they must succeed!”
The ordinance currently has 12 cosponsors. Should it pass the appropriations committee, it will appear before the full council on Thursday June 11th at 6pm.
“As an educator myself, I understand how important programs like this are for the future of our community,” says Blackwell. “I applaud Ms. Bittner and her students for their hard work and dedication to doing the right thing.”
