Louisville – With a turning of several shovels, ground was broken Thursday for Gallery Square in the East Market Arts area.
“This is how you change a neighborhood, one front porch at a time,“ said Councilman David Tandy (D) 4. “Certainly with this project we are continuing with that goal.”
Tandy joined Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson in groundbreaking for the $4 million, 21-unit condominium project.
“This is all part of the ripple effect, that began years ago with the creation of Slugger Field,” said Mayor Abramson. “We are just across the street from Liberty Green which is also a major project for this area. Very soon, people will be able to walk to restaurants, and one of two grocery stores in the area.”
Construction on the project is set to begin this month and be completed in the fall of 2007.
Tandy said this is just another step forward in moving the Phoenix Hill neighborhood forward.
“This kind of development is what makes Louisville a great place to live, work and play,” he said. “I look forward to continuing to work with the Mayor and those private developers who see the great potential of this area and who want to make it a great area for all of us.”
