Louisville Metro Council Members Dan Johnson, D-21, and Doug Hawkins, R-25, announced today that public hearings will be held on the issue of a smoking ban. These hearings will be separate from the ones being held by the Health Department.
"I'm uncommitted on the issue, and want to hear what people have to say about this proposal," Johnson said.
The hearings will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 and Sept. 24 in the council chambers on the third floor of City Hall. Speakers can address the Council for up to 3 minutes and can sign up outside the council chambers from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. the day of the hearing.
“The Council will ultimately decide on the issue of whether this community has a smoking ban, so we should be the ones conducting the public hearings,” Hawkins said. “We would like to hear directly from constituents, not through a third party such as the Health Department.”
