Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D-24) is extending the 2010 “Doing Our Part from the Heart” campaign through the end of April in an effort to raises needed funding for postage to send 400 boxes of personal supplies to service men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“Right now, we have only half the money needed for postage,” says Flood. “To send our goal of 400 boxes, we need to raise about $5,000. I know the economy is tight, so hopefully this extension will help.”
Flood officially kicked off the 2010 “Doing our Part from the Heart” Campaign in February. For the last three years, the community has been asked for donations of items such as hand sanitizer, eye drops, bug repellent, candy and more for troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. .
“I am happy to say the community is responding to our Campaign,” says Flood. “But we need to do as much as we can for these men and women who are serving overseas. We are doing pretty well except for postage and snack items. I am confident we will be able to raise the funds we need.”
Postage rates increased last year.
Donations can be deposited at any Republic Bank. Make sure to note on the check “From the Heart” account
More than 1,000 boxes of supplies have been sent to US troops over the last three years. The Okolona Business Association, the Okolona Fire Department, Republic Bank, Scheller’s Fitness and Cycling and Jackson- Hewitt Tax Service are primary sponsors along with Flood for the 2010 “Doing Our Part from the Heart” campaign.
