Metro Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin is extending an invitation to residents of Newburg to learn about community problems and concerns over a cup of coffee.

“It is my hope that we will have District 2 Community Coffees from time to time to focus on a specific problem,” says Shanklin. “It is also a chance to talk with me one on one if you have a concern about something going on in Metro Government.

The first District 2 Community Coffee is set for the Newburg Community Center, 4810 Exeter Avenue beginning at 10:00am. The Coffee will run until 12:00 noon

“With Spring time comes a growing concern in Newburg and all over Louisville, abandoned property,” says Shanklin. “As grass grows on the lots of abandoned properties the community needs to be aware of slum lords and absentee property owners. We hope to educate the community about the problem.”

Shanklin says the goal is to help clean up neighborhoods and as part of the effort, the Newburg Weed and Seed program will offer free plants to Newburg homeowners as part of the event. The free plants are designed to promote neighborhood beautification efforts in Newburg.

“I want to issue an invitation to the folks in Newburg to come out for our first Community Coffee,” says Shanklin.
