Louisville – With Fall in full swing and the colors changing, Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) is encouraging everyone to get out and enjoy the scenery of the Jefferson Memorial Forest at the Mayor’s Fall Hike and Outdoor Adventure on Saturday, October 19th.

“The fall season is especially beautiful for a hike, and there is no better place than our forest to enjoy the great outdoors with family and friends,” says Welch. “The goal here is simply to get out and exercise for better health. The Jefferson Memorial Forest, which is the largest urban forest in America, is a great place to start an exercise program of walking in a natural area of our community.”

The Mayor’s Fall Hike and Outdoor Adventure will get underway from 10:00am to 2:00pm Saturday, October 19th in the Horine Section of the Forest, 12304 Holsclaw Hill Road. It will offer hiking with beginner, intermediate and advanced trails. Guides will also be available for those who wish to learn more about the Jefferson Memorial Forest programs such as equine trails and nature education. Other fun activities include: the Alpine Tower Climb, Archery, Hayrides, Pumpkin Carving, Nauture Fun, 5 K Race as well as Canoe and Kayak Demonstrations.

Councilwoman Welch will have a District 13 Local Government Information booth during the event along with other local business booths. Refreshments will be available for purchase as well.

“When you finish your hike, then come over and let’s engage in conversation about an issue or concern,” says Welch. “We have many great things going on in District 13, and I will be glad give updates on programs and projects.”
