Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) has been appointed to the National League of Cities Human Development Steering Committee by NLC President Kathie Novak.
“I’m very honored to accept this appointment,” says Welch. “As a Registered Nurse for 33 years and a Metro Councilwoman for 3 years, I am extremely willing to serve in this capacity for the betterment of my city and our nation in these critical times of need.”
Members of the NLC Human Development (HD) Committee are responsible for the development of policies on employment and job training, early childhood development, TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families), unemployment insurances, income support programs, immigration and refugee policy, health and education, equal opportunity, and social services.
The Steering Committee will begin its work in March with the Congressional City Conference in Washington D.C.
“I want to offer Louisville as a future meeting site for the committee and its important work,” says Welch. “Aside from the attractions of Churchill Downs, the Belle of Louisville and the Slugger Museum, our area is truly repetitive of the challenges facing our country today.”
