Hundreds of young volunteers are expected on Saturday, March 29th for “Clean up Newburg Day” in conjunction with Brightside’s Metro wide spring cleaning weekend.

“The Newburg Youth Council has taken it upon themselves to give back to our community, says Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D) 2. “I thank them for their help and the example they are setting for young people in our neighborhoods.”

The clean up will begin at the Community Missionary Baptist Church, 4909 East Indian Trail. Krispy Kreme will provide doughnuts for volunteers beginning at 7:30am. The Clean up will get underway at 8:00 am and last until 12:00 pm. Lunch will be served afterward.

But there is also something new for homeowners as part of the clean up.

“If you live in District 2 and have some junk you would like to get rid of, I am sponsoring a junk pick up at the Newburg Community Center,” says Shanklin. “It is a free service and will save many people a trip to the landfill.”

The Newburg Community Center is located at 4810 Exeter Avenue. It will be available from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

“We should have a successful cleanup this Saturday,” says Shanklin. “With young people removing trash and litter from our streets and homeowners cleaning up their yards and garages, we continue to make Newburg a better place.”
