Louisville – Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) will join volunteers in a very special effort on Saturday, February 1st when “Shop and Share” gets underway across the Commonwealth of Kentucky to help the victims of domestic violence.
"I want to encourage others to volunteer for this wonderful event spearheaded by Kentucky’s First Lady Jane Beshear to assist families who are experiencing the trauma of Domestic Violence,” says Welch.
“Shop and Share” has a very simple premise. If you go to a Kroger, Food City or Super Dollar Discount Foods on Saturday, February 1st as you do your own shopping it is hoped you buy a few extra items to be shared with domestic violence shelters throughout the state. The event runs between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
Councilwoman Welch will join volunteers in District 13 at the Kroger on New Cut Road from 12:00pm to 4:00pm on the 1st.
“Our city is fortunate to have the Center for Women and Families as a refuge in time of need,” says Welch. “Many occasions women and/or families leave their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Anything we can do to obtain personal items is a great help to them."
Joining the First Lady in sponsoring “Shop and Share” are the Kentucky Commission on Women, Kentucky General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Kentucky Drug Court, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road.
