The story of the most famous horse in thoroughbred racing will be the featured film for June’s “Movies under the Stars” at the Iroquois Amphitheater. “Secretariat” will play on Sunday, June 12th beginning at 9:00pm.

The 2010 film features Diane Lane and John Malkovich as the owner and trainer of the 1973 winner of horse racing’s Triple Crown.

“It is a great movie for the summer, when you realize that Churchill Downs is not far from Iroquois Park,” says Councilwoman Marianne Butler (D-15). “Many who saw the 1973 Kentucky Derby will have fond memories and those who didn’t can relive the fun and excitement of watching Big Red.”

Butler is one of several Council members who sponsor the summer program, which is free to everyone. Other Council members include David James (D-6), Rick Blackwell (D-12), Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13), Bob Henderson (D-14) Dan Johnson (D-21), Jim King (D-10), Mary C. Woolridge (D-3), David Yates (D-25), Jon Ackerson (R-18), Robin Engel (R-22) and Brent Ackerson (D-26).

“The 2011 season is off to a good start and we hope everyone will come out and join us,” says Butler.

While there is no admission for the film, concessions will be available.

For more information about the 2011 “Movies under the Stars” line up and times, contact Councilwoman Butler’s office at 574-1115. Or you can contact the Iroquois Amphitheater at 368-5865.
