Louisville Metro Government Website Ranked One of Nation’s Best

Wednesday August 30, 2006

LouisvilleKy.gov earns 3rd-best designation

The new and expanded services offered by Louisville Metro Government’s official website, LouisvilleKy.gov, has helped it earn a ranking as one of the nation’s best. The website, which allows citizens Best of the Webto find a park by feature, bid on surplus items and pay a parking ticket, is rated third in the annual “Best of the Web” competition by the Center for Digital Government, a leading national research and advisory institute on information technology.

“We’re focused on making government services more effective, efficient and convenient,” Mayor Jerry Abramson said. “LouisvilleKy.gov gives citizens the option to get out of lines, get off the phone line and get online for the services and information they need.” Additional services and tools will be added to LouisvilleKy.gov in coming months Abramson said.

A totally new and improved LouisvilleKy.gov website was launched in January.

The Best of Web competition recognizes the most innovative and user-friendly local and state government portals and ranks them for Web-delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality for improved citizen access.

"Our 2006 awards showcase the best state and local government Web sites and on-line applications in the nation. These winners set the mark for delivering innovative, efficient and effective government services to all of their many constituencies," said Center Executive Vice President, Cathilea Robinett.

One key feature of LouisvilleKy.gov is “My Louisville” a tool that citizens can use to locate – and display on a map – information, services and facilities near a particular address. Through “My Louisville” residents can find junk pickup dates, learn who their council member is and find the nearest park, library branch, police station or recycling center.

Abramson said LouisvilleKy.gov makes it easier for citizens to find the many online or e-services that Metro Government offers, including:

  • Finding a Metro Park by feature
  • Bidding on surplus items
  • Paying a parking ticket
  • Registering your business, and paying occupational taxes
  • Checking the status of a property-maintenance complaint
  • Viewing development proposal notices in your council district

Other features of LouisvilleKy.gov include:

  • Expanded metro newsroom and calendar, allowing visitors to search by topic and subscribe to news and calendar items
  • Improved search engine, offering better search returns
  • “Get Involved” feature, showing opportunities to connect and interact with Metro Government
  • Welcome message in eight foreign languages
