This Saturday, volunteers in District 5 plan to focus on two areas in the Shawnee and Chickasaw neighborhoods as part of the Brightside Community wide cleanup. It is part of an ongoing effort to grow community pride.
“Whenever Brightside schedules a cleanup, it does not take long for people in our area to get organized and then get ready to get to work,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5).
One of the cleanups is set for the Shawnee Neighborhood. Volunteers are asked to meet at 10:00am at 224 Amy in the French Plaza for coffee and juice. Trash bags and gloves will be handed out and then teams will move to certain areas of the neighborhood to begin the cleanup.
The other cleanup is sponsored by the Westover Subdivision in the Chickasaw neighborhood. Residents and Boy Scouts will meet at Garland Avenue and Southwestern Parkway at 10:00am.
“I want to encourage anyone who has some free time this coming Saturday morning to come out and join us,” says Hamilton. “These volunteers are your neighbors and they just want to make sure we have a clean and safe community.”
