Fifth District Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton will host a trolley tour of the Portland neighborhood to give council members an opportunity to see the area being looked at for a moratorium on building permits. The trolley will leave from Congress Alley, behind City Hall, at 1 p.m. Wednesday and return approximately 3:30 p.m. to the same location.
The tour will take council members to the Portland Museum, 2308 Portland Ave., where they will be joined by residents of the area. From there, the trolley will take participants around neighborhood streets to highlight the need for an updated neighborhood plan.
An ordinance pending before the Council's Planning and Zoning committee would impose a two-year moratorium on building permits in Portland while a new neighborhood plan is prepared and approved for the area. The ordinance is sponsored by Councilwoman Hamilton, D-5, and Councilman Willie Bright, D-4.
Note: Reporters interested in riding on the trolley should contact Jennifer Brislin at 574-4137 for availability.
