“The Grascals” to headline Forest Fest ’11 on Saturday, May 21st

The beauty of the Jefferson Memorial Forest will be enhanced with some very special music in the month of May. The Eighth Annual Forest Fest Bluegrass Music Festival will bring fun and music to what many say is a natural treasure in Southwest Jefferson County on Saturday May 21st.

“Forest Fest ’11 is a great way to showcase the beauty and fun of the Jefferson Memorial Forest,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D) 13. “On hand will be a collection of local and regional bluegrass musicians who love to play a unique blend of American music.”

The Eighth Annual Forest Fest kicks off on Saturday, May 21stth beginning at 10:30am until 7:00pm. It features four musical groups throughout the day and best of all it is free admission. Parking is $5 a carload.

Headlining Forest Fest ‘11 will be The Grascals, winners of the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America’s Bluegrass Instrumental band of the year for 2011. Other groups performing are Relic, The Highrollers and Bluegrass 101.

“Bluegrass music is not the only thing we will have on hand,” says Welch.”Various arts and crafts booths will be available for those who would like to spend a nice Saturday afternoon with family and friends.”

Welch is the presenting sponsor of Forest fest ’11. Joining her as sponsors; Rick Blackwell (D-12), Bob Henderson (D-14), Marianne Butler (D-15), Madonna Flood (D-24), David Yates (D-25), Robin Engel (R-22) and James Peden (R-23). Forest Fest ‘11 is also sponsored by Metro Parks and the Fairdale PicPac Neighborhood.
