Louisville – The holiday season continues throughout Metro Louisville as Councilman David Tandy (D) 4 host “Light Up Smoketown and the Shelby Park Neighborhoods”

“The holiday season is a perfect time of the year for friends and neighbors  to come together and celebrate the successes of the year while beginning to look toward the future and what possibilities the new year will bring,” says Tandy.

The event will be held on Tuesday December 12th beginning at 5:30 pm at the Shelby Park Community Center, 600 E. Oak Street.

A holiday party will follow at the Presbyterian Community Center, 701 South Hancock Street.

The party will take on special meaning for those who knew Ella Roberts, a long time community leader who passed away this year. A plaque honoring her service to the community will be unveiled at The Presbyterian Community Center.

“Ms Roberts was a special lady not only to the people of Smoketown and Shelby Park neighborhoods but to a wide number of people through out the city of Louisville,” says Tandy. “It is my hope that this plaque will be a fitting reminder for all to pause to reflect upon her tireless work in our community to improve the quality of life of her neighbors and their children.”

Ms. Roberts will also be honored with an essay contest for residents. Her dedication to the neighborhood inspired the theme “What does my community mean to me?”

The essay contest will be held the week prior the Light Up event. Essays can be submitted to the Councilman’s office. Prizes will be based on age groupings.
