Louisville – Several Metro Council members are planning to attend a special meeting in Portland to discuss the renaming of a portion of 22nd Street for the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“We want to listen to residents in the area as well as give people a chance to see what we are talking about,” says Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D) 2.
Recently, the Metro Planning Commission was petitioned for the name change for a section of 22nd Street from I-64 to Dixie Highway.
The meeting will take place in Nelligan Hall at 2010 Portland Avenue on Monday, December 18th. It will begin at 7:00pm. Shanklin will be among some council members who plan to attend.
“There are many people who are in support of this measure and we want to explain to everyone why we believe this will be an enhancements for the city as we honor such a great civil rights leader,” says Shanklin.
