Louisville Water Company Offers Free “Clean Hands” Decals for Public Restrooms

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and Louisville Water Company want you to wash your hands…thoroughly! The “Clean HandClean Hands! Campaign Decal 2009s" Campaign focuses on reducing the spread of disease through proper hand washing.

The "Clean Hands" Campaign provides a free 5" x 5" decal that can be posted in restrooms all over the city…in schools, restaurants, churches, childcare facilities, and businesses.

"Hands are the principal carriers of disease causing germs,” said Dr. Adewale Troutman, director of Public Health and Wellness. “Hand washing – with soap and water – is a simple thing and…in this time of widespread swine flu, it’s the best way to prevent infection and illness at school, at home, and at work.”

The “Clean Hands” Campaign is an extension of Louisville Water Company's hand washing program that visits over 40 schools each year.

“Public health is a part of our mission,” said Greg Heitzman, president of Louisville Water Company. “One of the most important ways you use safe, clean water is to wash your hands. We want to take this important lesson not just to school children but to people all over the city.”

All Jefferson County Public Schools and Metro Louisville buildings will have the decals. Public Health and Wellness inspectors will be sharing the decals with restaurants and public facilities throughout the city. The University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences will work to distribute the decals throughout university buildings.
