Louisville – Councilwoman Judith Green (D-1) is partnering with EON and Feed the City to provide a fun event for children who are headed back to school this month. The “2010 Back Pack Giveaway and Back to School Festival” is set for Saturday August 14th.

“This is a special time of year when parents and the community should make every effort to support education and help our children get ready to learn,” says Green. “I hope everyone takes advantage of this fun time.”

EON is providing 1000 backpacks and schools supplies for needy children on a first come first serve basis. Councilwoman Green has provided the funding for “Feed the City” to supply food and entertainment and inflatable jumpers for the event which will be held at 3050 West Broadway from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Parents must attend with their children in order to receive the school supplies.

The festival will also provide free haircuts, dental supplies and appointments for teeth cleaning. Applications for the free school lunch program at Jefferson County Public Schools will be available. Organizers will also hand out under clothes such as socks, t-shirts and underwear to children in need. Other agencies will be on hand including EMA and the Metro Public Health and Wellness Department.

Green has also assisted with other Back to school events for children in District 1. Those events include: More Than Conquerors Church, the Catholic Enrichment Center, Southern Farm Neighborhood Association and the Highland Park Community Development Corp.

“Children have always been a priority for me,” says Green. “Anytime we can help them in life through education and support, we are in turn building stronger neighborhoods and a strong future.”
