Ford Unveils New Escape
Friday February 24, 2012
Ford’s latest announcement has brought its total commitment to Louisville to about $1.2 million, with investments at both the Kentucky Truck Plant and the Louisville Assembly Plant. Ford unveiled its newest product, the 2013 Ford Escape, which will be produced out of the Louisville Assembly Plant, at the Louisville New Car show on February 24, 2012.
The vehicle goes into full production by the end of March. The Escape was the most popular compact SUV sold in 2011.
“The economic impact of thousands of jobs at Ford and its suppliers is enough to move the needle on unemployment in the city,” Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said. “This is going to be the best-selling SUV in the country again.”
Last fall, Ford announced a new contract, which workers ratified, that created a third shift and another 1,300 jobs to LAP, raising the total new-job count to 3,100.
