It is an opportunity every September for the Community to come together, hear good music, enjoy the fun of an historic park and honor some outstanding people who have given their time and talent to Metro Louisville.

The District 5 Community Celebration is set to return to Shawnee Park on Saturday, September 13th.

“This is an event that has grown over the years,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5). “It is chance for the entire community to come out and listen to some good live local music, purchase books, posters, see arts and crafts and enjoy the beginning of the fall season.”

This year’s celebration will begin at 12:00pm and feature a wide variety of musical artists starting at 2:00pm until dusk. Those performing artists include; Maestro J, The Unlimited Show Band, Janis Carter, The Louisville Connection and much more.

The Community Celebration will once again feature the Molly Leonard Community Service Awards to honor those who have dedicated themselves to building a better community.

The Celebration, sponsored by the District 5 Advisory Committee, is putting a major emphasis on activities for senior citizens, including bingo and health screenings by the Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, It is a chance to get some valuable health information while at the same time enjoying yourself.

“Too often we forget about the two important things that make a community what it is,” says Hamilton. “Those things are you and “unity”. This is a chance to remember what a community is all about.”

There will be vendor booths, food, games, health screenings, a basketball tournament for youth, horse shoes and fun for the whole family. There is still vendor booth space available.

So bring a lawn chair or a blanket to spread out on and enjoy the day.
