Shanklin encourages residents to come out and enjoy 2012 Newburg Community Day

Contact: Louisville – One of Metro Louisville’s well established neighborhoods will come together this weekend for a traditional celebration of unity and pride when “Newburg Community Days” gets underway on Saturday, September 29th and Sunday September 30th.

“I want to encourage everyone to come out and join us as we take pride in our community,” says Council Barbara Shanklin (D-2). “For more than 50 years, Newburg has held this celebration as a way to bring our community together.”

“Newburg Community Days” kicks off on Saturday with a Community Breakfast in Petersburg Park. Those who attend the Community Breakfast are asked to bring canned goods to the event to help charity.

There will also be a health fair, basketball and softball tournaments are planned for the weekend. Throughout the park vendors and entertainment will be on hand. At 11:00am, the traditional Newburg parade will be held throughout the neighborhood.

There will be children’s activities which include “inflatable jumper”; face painting & storybook telling

Then on Sunday, a gospel festival will get underway.

Community Breakfast 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM (in the park)

Health Fair – 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM (inside the community center)

Parade- 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (throughout the neighborhood)

Battle of the Bands – 1:00PM to 2:00PM (in the park)

Basketball Tournament - 8:00 AM – (all day)

Softball Tournament (TBA)

Unlimited Band Performance- 6:00 PM - Closing


Style Show 3:00PM

Gospel Festival 5:00 PM

Continuation of Softball Tournament (TBA)

“Over the years, this event has been a chance to welcome home old friends and catch up with neighbors,” says Shanklin. “We hope everyone will enjoy themselves and come out and see all the good things that have been done in Newburg.”
