With Spring in full swing, the call is going out to volunteers to join Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D-24) for the 2010 Clean-up Okolona on Saturday, May 15th.
“This will be our seventh spring Clean-up in Okolona and every year I am thankful for the good turnout we have seen from everyone,” says Flood (D) 24. “I think we have come up with a good way to help many of the groups that want to keep Okolona clean and raise money for their organization at the same time.”
The 2010 Clean-up Okolona will be held at Southern High School in the north parking lot on Saturday May 15th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.
While making Okolona cleaner, any Okolona 501-C3 organization has a chance to raise money while serving at the clean-up. The Okolona group that brings the most volunteers will receive the top prize of $950. The second prize is $750. And finally, $500 will be awarded for third.
Okolona 501-C3 groups who bring more than 25 people will be awarded $200.
“We will split into teams and then get to work,” says Flood. “We have supplies that will be provided. All we need are as many hands as we can find to help us pick up trash all around our community.”
After the clean-up, the Councilwoman will host a cook out for the volunteers to thank them for a job well done.
Also joining in the 2010 Spring Clean-up as sponsors are Metro Louisville Brightside, Solid Waste Management, Value Market, Sam’s, Silver Heights Pic-Pac, Okolona Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball and Okolona Fire Department.
To register your group, contact the office of Councilwoman Madonna Flood at 574-1124. Groups must be pre-registered by 8:30am at Southern High School on Saturday, May 15th. All members of the group must sign-in on clean-up day in order to be counted toward the prize money and only children over 6 and older count for a group.
