Free Drop off Collects 410 Tons of Junk
Thursday July 30, 2009
Hundreds of citizens took advantage of the city’s free junk drop-off on Sunday – disposing of 410 tons of household waste.
The city sponsors free bulk waste and junk drop-off collection days at the Waste Management Outer Loop Landfill twice a year to help residents with cleanups in their homes and neighborhoods.
“This partnership allows our residents to dispose of unwanted junk and clutter in an appropriate and responsible way, and helps make our community a more attractive place to call home,” Abramson said.
Metal items are recycled, which saves valuable landfill space, and Freon is properly removed from appliances.
People who wish to dispose of bulk waste throughout the year may take up to three household items, at no charge, to the Waste Reduction Center at 636 Meriwether Ave. Hours of operation are Tuesday - Friday, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The junk disposal day is a partnership between the Louisville Metro Division of Solid Waste Management and Waste Management of Kentucky.
