The Kentucky Department for Public Health is now reporting widespread flu activity throughout the state. Laboratory confirmed flu cases have also been reported in the Louisville Metro area.

“Flu season is just now beginning in our community,” said Louisville Metro Health Department Director Dr. Adewale Troutman. “If you haven’t gotten a shot, I urge you take advantage of this free opportunity.

Free flu shots are being offered due to surplus supplies. While adequate vaccine supplies were produced this year, many providers, including the Health Department and Family Health Centers, did not receive their full shipments until later than in previous years. This situation is not likely to occur again next year.
