Continuing her efforts to help families stay safe and help prevent crime, Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D) 24 announces a special effort with Louisville Metro Police to help children protect themselves.
“The Kid’s Safety Rodeo is an opportunity for children to learn important information about riding a bicycle,” says Flood. “They will also receive tips on protecting themselves from other dangers.”
The event will get underway on Saturday September 29th next to Meijer’s Garden Center, 9500 Preston Highway from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
The Safety Rodeo will feature a bike riding skills test by LMPD on a certified bike course. Officers will teach kids the rules of the road. Scheller’s Fitness and Cycling will check bike helmets and make sure they are being worn correctly, so bring your own helmet.
“Bicycle safety is just one aspect of the rodeo,” says Flood. “We have some other important information for children.”
The Child Connection will be at the rodeo to teach children about how they should react to strangers. This organization visits many schools and teaches kids to kick, scream and yell if approached by a stranger.
The Okolona Fire Department will present a display of equipment and materials that offers fire safety tips.
Additional sponsors of the Kid’s Safety Rodeo include Meijer and B.C. Roosters. Meijer is also providing a bike and helmet door prizes. B.C. Roosters is providing healthy kid’s meal samples and prizes.
“I also want parents to know that Louisville Metro Police have some information for them as well,” says Flood. “Officers will provide child ID packets and Halloween glow sticks for $1. Once again, safety is our main focus for this event.”
