Metro Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2) is encouraging residents of Newburg to take advantage of free junk drop off at the Outer Loop landfill this Sunday, April 11th.

“We have had many calls in our office about when junk pick up will beginning this year,” says Shanklin. “In many areas around Metro Louisville, the collections will not start in June and that is why you should take advantage of this free drop off.”

Due to budget shortfalls, Metro Government has cut back on the number of junk collections made each year. Shanklin is concerned information about the cutbacks in pickup may cause problems.

“I am afraid some people may going on and set items out for pickup and then be cited for have junk on their property,” says Shanklin. “If they have to get rid of junk, the best way is to use the free junk drop off for now.”

Residents can take their junk to the Outer Loop between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. Items not accepted include: Yard waste (grass, limbs, leaves) hazardous liquids, paint, tires, and commercial trash.

For more information about the free junk drop off, call Metro Call at 311.
