Metro Council President David Tandy (D-4) announced the creation of an Ad Hoc Committee on the flash flood of 2009. The Committee will be co-chaired by Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21) and Councilwoman Judith Green (D-1).
The purpose of the ad hoc committee is to learn from MSD about what transpired on August 4th and to inform the public about what actions should be taken to address real and personal property loss suffered by individuals.
The members may also review any action that can be taken to lessen the effects of any other severe weather occurrence, should such an event occur in the future.
“This will be an opportunity for the community to understand our 21st century needs with a system that is currently being upgrade from its 19th century beginnings,” said Tandy. “It is my hope this committee will help educate the public on what can be done to prevent the kind of losses we have seen as a result of unpredictable weather.”
The Ad Hoc Committee’s first meeting will be Wednesday night at 6:30pm in Council Chambers.
