Metro Parks offers a variety of fun holiday events for the whole family throughout the month of December. Below are just a few of the festivities… be sure to check our website, for the complete Metro Parks calendar of events.

Event: Welcome Center Holiday Open House

Location: Jefferson Memorial Forest Welcome Center (11311 Mitchell Hill Rd.)

Date: Saturday, December 1

Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Event Details:

Find something for the outdoor enthusiasts on your list, and get a head start on your holiday shopping. There will be refreshments, music, and a cozy fire at the gift shop. Bring your kids along; there will be animal guests and crafts to make and take. Santa will arrive at Noon and stay until 2pm.

Event: Old-Fashioned Family Holiday Festival

Location: Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing (7410 Moorman Road)

Date: Saturday, December 1

Time: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Event Details:

A first-time community holiday celebration includes holiday craft activities for children, musical performances by area choirs, horse-drawn carriage rides, a silent auction of holiday wreaths and discounted tours of the historic Farnsley-Moremen House (3 to 5 p.m. only) which will be decorated for the holiday season. Santa arrives by horse-drawn carriage at 4 p.m.

There is no admission for the event and most activities are free. Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be available for purchase.

Co-sponsored by the Valley Station Area Business Association, Pleasure Ridge Park Area Business Association, and the Southwest Regional Library.

Event: Candlelight Christmas - Locust Grove

Location: Locust Grove (561 Blankenbaker Lane)

Date: Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8

Time: Fri. 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sat. 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Event Details:

Tour Locust Grove by candlelight as the Clark and Croghan families prepare to greet 18th century guests. The home will be decorated with greenery and fruits, and the kitchen filled with the smells of desserts. Refreshments and children's crafts will also be offered.

Admission $6 adults, $3 children, or $18 maximum per household.

Event: Guided Hike at Jefferson Memorial Forest

Location: Jefferson Memorial Forest Welcome Center (11311 Mitchell Hill Road)

Date: Saturday, December 15

Time: 9 a.m.

Event Details:

Meet your friends at the Welcome Center before heading out for a winter’s hike. The trail will be determined by weather and popular vote. Trained volunteer naturalists will be with you every step of the way to assure you don’t miss a bit of winter wonder! Afterward, warm up with a cup of cocoa by the fire. Dogs are welcome, but must be on leashes. Each dog will receive a free sample of Milkbone Trail Mix for Dogs while quantities last.

Event: ‘Dive-in’ Movie – Disney Pixar’s “Brave” at Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center

Location: Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center (201 Reservoir Avenue)

Date: December 27, 2012

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Event Details:

It might be cold outside, but the aquatic center is warm and inviting and Mary T’s Dive-In Movie is Free! Families are invited to wear swimsuits and settle in for a screening of Disney-Pixar’s “Brave”, which tells the story of young impetuous princess determined to make her own path in life.
