Councilman Tom Owen (D-8) has indicated to members of the Louisville Metro Council that he plans to seek the Presidency of the Council in January, 2010.

The Councilman has sent this letter to the members of the Council:

Dear Council Colleagues:

I want to be your Metro Council President for 2010.

Over the seven year life of our Council, we have been blessed with effective leadership from both political caucuses.

Over the next few days, I will speak directly with you to get your ideas for our Council in a year that we will be tested by persistent budget shortfalls, a Metro executive who will be vacating the office at the end of the year, and several of our colleagues distracted by Mayoral campaigns.

I believe that in this time of testing my fifteen years of legislative experience plus my temperament may well serve our Council well. I am ready to go at the work with energy, equanimity, and breadth. From edge-to-edge, I know our community and believe that I am highly qualified to steer our Council ship thru unsettled waters. I am capable of being a committed listener and ultimately a direct and unwavering leader.
