Metro Parks seeking volunteers, participants in Reds Rookie Success League - Louisville
Monday May 24, 2010
Parents who are looking for the perfect way to introduce their children to the national pastime are encouraged to sign up for the Metro Parks/Cincinnati Reds Rookie Success League
, which begins on Tuesday, June 8.
“We are excited once again to partner with the Reds to bring the Rookie Success League back for another year,” Metro Parks Director Mike Heitz said. “Because of this league, hundreds of kids each year learn not only the fundamentals of baseball, but how to work as part of a team and live a healthy lifestyle.”
Participation in the Reds Rookie Success League is free, and boys and girls ages 6-12 will receive numerous perks throughout the six-week program. They include a free daily snack, a field trip to Louisville Slugger Field for a Bats game, a free hat and uniform shirt, and interaction with Louisville Bats players and coaches.
The league will meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays from June 8 to July 14. At Wyandotte Park, 1104 Beecher Street, the league will meet from 9 a.m. to noon, and at Petersburg Park, 5008 Indian Trail, from 5 to 8 p.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday.
Metro Parks is also seeking youth mentors to serve as volunteer coaches throughout the six-week period. Baseball and softball experience is welcome but not necessary to become a volunteer coach, and adults who donate their time will also receive a uniform, daily snack and the opportunity to accompany league members on the Bats field trip.
