Louisville – Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch is encouraging women all over District 13 to take advantage of a lifesaving event.

She is once again sponsoring The District 13 Women’s Health Fair. For women, it’s an opportunity to get a Mammography to fight breast cancer and learn about other important health information for a healthier lifestyle.

“With my experience as a nurse, I want to take every opportunity to give people the information they need to be healthier and reverse a trend we see too often in Metro Louisville,” says Welch. “Many areas of our city rank very high in several unhealthy categories. We are expanding this annual breast cancer screening event to cover cardiovascular screenings and other important information for women’s health.”

The Mammography Screening is set for the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church Parish Hall, 903 Fairdale Road from 8:30 am to 3:30pm.

The University of Louisville Hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center will conduct Mammograms for women age 40 and older. There is no cost to program eligible women without insurance. Insurance will be filed for women with coverage. Appointments are required for the screening. Call 762-1410 to make an appointment.

The Women’s Health Fair will also feature additional health screenings by Norton Healthcare such as: blood sugar, blood pressure and Body Mass Index. The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will provide information on Diabetes, nutrition and smoking cessation. Passport Health Plan and Passport Advantage will be on hand with information on KCHIP and Medicaid. Other groups and agencies will be on hand providing free health information.

Welch is also partnering in the screenings with The Kentucky Cancer Program and the Louisville Jefferson County Partnership in Cancer Control.

The Breast Cancer Screenings will be held from 8:30 to 3:30pm. The Health Fair screenings and information will be available between 11:00am and 3:30pm
