Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) will be on hand for the unveiling of a special piece of community art work at the Fairdale pool on Friday, May 22nd. The art work is a mural painted by students from the Fairdale Community School.
“This mural is just one of many volunteer efforts to make this summer a special season for the Fairdale Pool at Nelson Hornbeck Park,” says Welch. “We have had many volunteers who have helped get this park ready for families and residents.”
The unveiling is set for 3:00pm. The park is located at 709 Fairdale Road.
This past Saturday volunteers from the Fairdale Christian Church with help from the Kenwood Heights Christian Church were involved in a pool painting party to get the pool house ready for the summer.
Welch is a funding partner on the mural and has helped with the cost of supplies for the students. The Fairdale Community School is led by Kathy Blevins, Director and Michelle Burgan, Youth Board Leader. Deborah Koch, a resident of District 13 and Gibbs Rounsavall, an art teacher at Fairdale High School helped the kids with the project. Mike Slaton, Volunteer Coordinator for Metro Parks, has also been involved with the entire project.
“These students should be applauded for their willingness to get involved in their community,” says Welch. “I also want to thank the volunteers who have taken the time to make sure Hornbeck Park continues to be a great recreational spot for the District.”
There will be a news conference for the unveiling. It will be followed by a “community Party” to thank the students and volunteers.
