LOUISVILLE (February 14, 2007) – The Louisville Metro Department of Public Works and Assets, Division of Solid Waste Management today announced changes in the holidays observed for 2007 and beyond.
Due to an agreement reached during contract negotiations between Louisville Metro Government and Teamsters Local Union #783, President’s Day and Veteran’s Day will no longer be observed as holidays.
“I am pleased that we were able to reach an agreement that benefits both the public and our union members,” said Ted Pullen, Director of the Department of Public Works and Assets.
Normal service delivery in the Urban Services District (formerly the City of Louisville) will take place on Monday, February 19 and Monday, November 12. This includes garbage, yard waste and recycling collection.
“This change is a result of open dialogue and consideration by all parties that this would result in improved service delivery,” said Keith Hackett, Solid Waste Management Division Director.
The agreement changes the holiday schedule for at least the next five years. In return for these two holidays, Teamster members will receive two “floating” holidays, which they may take at any time during the calendar year.
The holidays that will continue to be observed are:
January 1 – New Year’s Day
January 15 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
May 28 – Memorial Day
July 4 – Independence Day
September 3 – Labor Day
November 22 – Thanksgiving Day
December 25 – Christmas Day
