Louisville – With the change of the season and warmer days and nights ahead, May is a perfect time for neighbors to check up on each other and see what’s happening on their street.
Councilman Tom Owen announces the return of a successful idea which brings some neighbors closer together. “Front Porch Tuesdays” return to District 8 on May 14th and 21st.
“I am asking people to leave their comfort zone and take a trip across the street,” says Owen. “By leaving your house, you might find a great way to make you and your family safer.”
For more than a decade, Owen proposed a simple way to build community spirit. As a child growing up, the Councilman had seen how the front porch or front yard was a place where folks set out to get to know one another and build stronger and safer neighborhoods.
So Owen’s idea is to repackage in modern times that older way of doing things.
The logic behind Front Porch Tuesday is simple. On Tuesday, May 14th , even-numbered houses will sit out on the porch and host their neighbors from across the street. On May 21st, odd-numbered houses will return the favor by hosting their even numbered neighbors.
"It's easy to get so wrapped up in the hectic hustle and bustle of everyday life that we fail to know our neighbors," says Owen. "Finally, the real key to Front Porch is creating an excuse to meet neighbors without worrying so much about a certain way it ought to be done."
