On Saturday, March 15th three very important groups of people will begin cleaning up neighborhoods and kick off a valuable program design to create jobs for young people.
“We have an opportunity to help our kids and at the same time show them the benefit of keeping our neighborhoods clean,” says Councilman George Unseld (D) 6. “The program will help build self esteem in our kids and support our community.”
Unseld began the effort to create the District 6 Clean Team program last year and three teams will initiate the program on Saturday.
Three Clean Teams will begin working on Saturday.
The first will focus attention at 18th and Kentucky in the California Neighborhood at 10:00am. The second will meet at 12:30pm at Fourth & Oak in the Old Louisville Neighborhood and the third will meet at 2:00pm at Ninth and Colorado to do work in the South Central Neighborhood.
The program will be administered and coordinated through The Interdenominational Ministerial Coalition (IMC), a non profit organization committed to social justice, economic development and educational advancement.
“People in the community will see these teams picking up debris and cleaning sidewalks along with curbs,” says Unseld. “I believe these teams will provide an example for all residents in our neighborhoods.”
Under the program, young people will be paid a stipend for their involvement. The program is expected to run throughout the summer.
