Shanklin invites community to brunch honoring Dr. Martin Luther King on Saturday, Janaury 19th

Metro Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D) 2 will join the Men of Peace for a Martin Luther King Jr. Brunch to help children in the community as Metro Louisville begins a weekend of events honoring the civil rights leader.
“This is a special brunch with the theme of “Keeping the Dream Alive” in honor of Dr. King,” says Shanklin. “Now more than ever, we need to strive for justice and equality for all.”
The brunch is a fundraising effort for various youth programs sponsored by the Men of Peace through out the year. Those programs include sending kids to summer camp, basketball games and providing some with Christmas presents. Donations will be sought from those who attend the brunch.
The event will get underway at 11:00am at Newburg Middle School, 4901 Exeter Avenue.
Joining the Men of Peace and Shanklin will be Congressman John Yarmuth, D- Kentucky and Metro Council members Judith Green (D) 1 and George Unseld (D) 6.
“Dr. King showed us that all are equal and we all need to take care of our community,” says Shanklin. “I am please to help the Men of Peace spread Dr. King’s message through their actions. I hope the community will enjoy this event.”
