Louisville Metro Councilman Ken Fleming and Councilwoman Julie Raque Adams have initiated a pilot program aimed at removing advertising signs illegally placed in public right of ways. Working in conjunction with the Kentucky Department of Transportation, Louisville Metro Public Works and Brightside, Fleming and Adams have created a program that will utilize volunteers living in District 7 and District 18 to remove illegally placed advertising signs.

“Our districts are home to several major intersections,” commented Councilman Fleming. “These intersections are tempting to some businesses that want to use the right-of-way in these highly traveled areas as advertising locations. The signs are illegal and unattractive, and can impair the sightlines of drivers. Hopefully this program will help make our districts safer and more attractive.”

“My office has received numerous calls concerning the proliferation of illegal signs in my district,” remarked Councilwoman Adams. “In response to those calls, I began working with Councilman Fleming to develop this pilot program. I believe this program will be successful, and hope that it will eventually be implemented countywide.”

Those interested in being involved in the program should contact Councilman Fleming’s office at 574-1107, or Councilwoman Adam’s office at 574-1118.
