It is a key redevelopment study that maps out plans to improve South Third and Fourth Streets from Industry Road to Central Avenue. The goal is continued enhancement of the corridor by pulling together the redevelopment near Churchill Downs with the development at the University of Louisville.
“The University Redevelopment Corridor Study is a roadmap to further residential and commercial development in an area that is home to Churchill Downs, Papa John’s Stadium and Patteson Ballfield,” says Councilwoman Marianne Butler (D-15). “It not only offers a plan for redevelopment but establishes goals for overall improvement and a guideline for the future.”
Butler and Metro Government funded the $75,000 study which was presented to the Metro Louisville Planning Commission on June 17. It reviews previous efforts to redevelop the area as well as guides to reenergize the urban neighborhoods adjacent to a large university.
“This plan is very progressive,” said Butler. “The streetscape plan along Fourth Street will give visitors to our community a vibrant and scenic drive to our most famous visitor destination as well as offer more green space for the neighbors.”
