Louisville – This coming weekend, another great Old Louisville tradition gets underway highlighting some of the best blues music to be heard in Metro Louisville. And it’s FREE.

Councilman David James and Four Roses Bourbon invite the community to the 18th Garvin Gate Blues Festival to be held on Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12, at The Gate on Garvin Place at Oak Street in historic Old Louisville.

“This Festival is a great example of how a simple idea grew into a community event,” says James. “Garvin Gate is another of our unique areas of Old Louisville where you can sit back and enjoy a fall weekend.”

The Garvin Gate Blues Festival started out in 1988 as a simple jam session in the Rudyard Kipling parking lot and its popularity took off. Meanwhile, the Garvin Place Association was experiencing its own growth by expanding its boundaries to become the Garvin Place Neighborhood Association.

The Association extended an invitation to the jam session to be an accommodating host and seen then legendary blues musicians that have performed at the festival through the years.

The Garvin Gate Blues Festival is a free event. A portion of the proceeds concession, parking and souvenirs will benefit Wellspring that operates the Tonini Apartments: named one of Preservation Louisville's Top 10 Preservation Successes!

“This Festival is also one way we can help preserve the historic nature of the Garvin Gate Neighborhood in Old Louisville,” says James. “I want to thank Four Roses Bourbon for partnering with us as we keep Old Louisville unique. Help yourself to some great blues this weekend,”
