Lace up the hiking boots for a day of walking in one of Metro Louisville’s natural wonders on Saturday, October 27th.

Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D) 13 will join Mayor Jerry Abramson for the Fourth Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Hike in the Jefferson Memorial Forest.

“If you have not been out to see the fall beauty of the Forrest, I can think of no better way to reacquaint yourself with what we have right here in our own back yard,” says Welch. The Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Hike will run from 10:00am until 2:00pm. It will be held in the Horine Section of the Forrest. Information booths on the various trails for hiking will be available. Five of 13 trails will be spotlighted for the hike.

“We have everything from something simple for those who like to walk at a leisurely pace to something challenging for the avid hiker,” says Welch. “The important thing is to come and do a little exercise if you can. Bring the kids or a friend and enjoy nature.”

Welch says Metro Parks has done a great job in making the Forest a great place for recreation and education.

“We have a wonderful nature center, camping complex and trails that make this forest a place where anyone can have a nice time in the great outdoors,” says Welch. “I would encourage everyone to come out and learn what many school children from all over already know. The Forest is fun.”

To get to the Mayor’s Health Hometown Hike use 12304 Holsclaw Hill Road.
