It is a September tradition that honors the volunteers of Metro Council District 5 and at the same time is a fun event to wind down the summer. The District 5 Community Celebration is set for Saturday, September 12th.
“This has been a hard year for so many with wind damage in the fall, ice storms in the winter and flooding in August,” says Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5). “We have been through a lot and there have been many neighbors who have helped those in need, so this year’s celebration is a way of thanking everyone. It is also a good time for us to relax and enjoy ourselves.”
Hamilton and the District 5 Advisory Council are hosting the event which will take place in Shawnee Park at the large pavilion from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. It will feature live music, vendors, bingo for seniors, and health care information.
The highlight of the Celebration is the Molly Leonard Community Service Awards. The Awards are presented to honor many dedicated volunteers in the District 5 Community.
“We take great pride in letting the community know about these hard working honorees,” says Hamilton. “So many of these volunteers have worked hard to make our community a better place to live.”
The Celebration will again feature the music of the popular Unlimited Show Band and Mike B.
