Men's Journal Names Louisville A 'Best Place To Live'

Wednesday March 17, 2010

Article cites arts scene, local shops

A national magazine has named Louisville to its list of the “Best Places to Live in 2010.”

Men’s Journal cited Louisville’s arts scene, its coffee shops and stores — and specifically touted Bardstown Road — in its April issue, which hit newsstands this week. Other cities named to the list include Minneapolis, Denver and Nashville.

“To some, Louisville is just bourbon, baseball bats, and a famous horse race,” the article states. “To those who know better, it’s artistic funk and gentlemanly class. Packed with eclectic coffee shops, thrift stores, skate punks, and bluegrass street musicians, Bardstown Road is a slice of weirdness in the midst of an upscale neighborhood. Bourbon’s reemergence as a sophisticated beverage rather than redneck swill parallels the city’s cultural renaissance.”

Mayor Jerry Abramson said Louisville’s secret is out.

“Even Men’s Journal has discovered all the possibilities in Louisville,” he said.
